SIRONKO:Stop Assaulting Market Vendors-Eve Kayegi Tells Security Operatives

An aspirant for the Sironko District Woman Parliamentary seat Eve Kayegi has called for an investigation into allegations that vendors at Mutufu market are being assaulted by security agencies.

According to Kayegi, she has received reports that vendors operating at the market are going through torrid times with security forces in the enforcement of presidential guidelines issued in the wake of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Kayegi says enforcement of the guidelines is not bad but the vendors should not be mistreated. She claims that some of the vendors’ merchandise is being destroyed as a result.

while contacted, Taitika the Elgon region Police Spokesman says they are following up on the allegations. Taitika has however urged all vendors operating in markets to observe guidelines like social distancing if they are to operate without disturbances.
